Heritage Hill is a historic residential neighborhood beside downtown Grand Rapids. Its houses predate the preservation organizing of the late 1960s; the neighborhood was not created by that movement.
A neighborhood with a long history
The Heritage Hill Association describes approximately 1,300 buildings, with homes dating to 1843 and styles ranging from Greek Revival to Prairie. The association formed in 1968 as residents worked to protect the neighborhood from demolition and urban renewal proposals.
Today, its real estate includes historic houses, condominiums and multifamily properties. Architecture is part of the appeal, but buyers should also compare condition, completed improvements, parking and approved property use.
